Are you wondering whether the SHIFT5me is the right smartphone for your everyday life? To help you make your decision, we have summarized the most important points in a clear manner. Because honest and appreciative communication is more important to us than a device sold.
What else the SHIFT5me can do
You can currently use the SHIFT5me reliably in the following areas:
- Telephony and SMS – Basic functions such as calls and text messages run stably.
- Navigation – GPS apps such as Google Maps or HERE WeGo usually work without restrictions.
- Messaging services – WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and similar apps are compatible (provided updates are still supported).
- Email and calendar – Applications such as Gmail or Outlook can be used without problems.
- Web browsing – Chrome, Firefox or similar browsers work for standard websites.
- Music and media playback – Streaming apps such as Spotify, Deezer or local media playback.
- Offline apps – Applications that do not require a connection to servers, such as note apps or calculators.
- Basic gaming – Games that have low requirements run smoothly.
- Camera and photo editing – Take photos and edit images with pre-installed or older apps.
- Wi-Fi hotspot and tethering – Sharing the internet connection is still possible.
What doesn’t work so well anymore
Basically, you can research the required operating system for each app in advance in the Google Play Store. The Paypal details, for example, state: “Android 6.0 or higher”, which would make the Paypal app compatible with the SHIFT5me. If you want to use a specific app on the SHIFT5me, we recommend checking in advance whether it works.
The following functions are only partially available or no longer available at all.
- Banking and other apps – Banks and some other app providers sometimes require more recent Android versions for their apps.
- Streaming services with DRM – For providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus or similar providers, compatibility should be checked beforehand.
- Mobile payment – Google Pay requires more recent Android versions.
- New Bluetooth standards – Devices with current protocols (e.g. Bluetooth 5.0) may have limited compatibility.
- Modern AR and VR apps – Technologies such as ARCore is not supported.
- High data requirements – Apps with complex requirements such as large cloud services may run slower.

The SHIFT5me extends our modular SHIFTm series with an economy model. Just like SHIFT6m and SHIFT6mq, the SHIFT5me is characterized by its modular design and the associated ease of repair. If you are looking for a sustainable smartphone with compact dimensions, you will find the SHIFT5me to be a reliable partner for your everyday life.
SHIFT bumper and tempered glass create the best possible conditions to optimally protect every SHIFTPHONE and are therefore included in the free delivery – as is our screwdriver.
NOTE: Since households are often already equipped with sufficient chargers, you will find a USB-C cable but no charger in the delivery scope of your smartphone. Make sure that you charge the battery of your SHIFT5me with at least a 2 amp charger. You can find more information about the right charger here.
If you absolutely need a more recent operating system, we would like to refer you to the SHIFTphone 8. If you still decide to buy a SHIFT5me or you already own a SHIFT5me, you can always use our upgrade option to switch to a more recent device.
